What is Democracy?
I believe that democracy is when people have the right to choose the way their lives are run. They get to have a say in their government and in the manner that they are represented. Higher officials may actually make the decision but the people choose what that decision should be. Democracy is a system that allows people to think and to choose for themselves. It is a way for people to control their own lives. Overall: Democracy is freedom. And freedom is what America’s all about, so it would make sense for America to be a democracy.
Going Green
My dad is an “environmental scientist” so my family always recycle’s things. We never throw water bottles or anything plastic away unless there is absolutely no recycling bin around. I even bring my empty water bottles home from Track practice because we don’t have recycling bins at the track. We never leave lights or other electronics on in order to save energy. We also use a lot less water than a normal family. i’d say that my family is a pretty green family.
What Inspires Me
I am inspired by being able to say that I am the best in something. I would like to be able to say that i am better at something than everybody else around me. That feeling is what inspires me to try my best and work harder than I need to. I haven’t had too many feelings like this but that is why i work all the harder to get there. Because it is a rare moment.
About Me
My name is Kevin. I am currently in 8th grade but highschool is coming up in a few months. I like school but I’m not somebody who spends their life studying. For some reason I love reading. I think I’m smart but I still have to work hard to get my A’s. I enjoy all kinds of sports, I’m willing to try any sport that comes my way although I’m not really naturally athletic. I run Cross- Country and Track for my school. Cross-Country in the Fall and Track in the Spring. I also play basketball in the winter, but not for my school. Also during the Spring I play some tennis and plan on trying out for my highschool team next year, instead of running Track. I’m the type of person who doesn’t see the glass as half full or half empty. I think it depends on how much you drank. If you fill it to the top and drink half then it’s half empty. If you only fill it half way then it’s half full.
Do You Define A Person by their Actions or their Intentions?
My teacher gave us this question in class while we were studying Andrew Jackson. This is my answer; although even after half an hour of intense discussion I’m still not sure. We should define a person by their intentions, but as a society we define them by their actions. This is because most people always need proof in order to believe something. An action cannot be changed, it is cold, hard fact. It is impossible to discredit and can never be changed.
An intention is something that occurs inside someones head and cannot be fully understod by anyone other than the person who is doing the intending. An intention is abstract and cannot be used as evidence in a case of law, so therefore it is not accepted by most of society. But intentions are what really make a person who they are and this is how we should judge them. Sometimes things occur that are competely unforseen by anybody and this changes the action that the person intended to happen. It does not change the intention but it changes the action.
A perfect example is former American President George W. Bush. When he became President he intended to end terrorism. So he acted on these intentons by sending America in to war. At the time most of America believed this to be a great idea. Now, at the end of his presidency, people consider the war to be a disaster, and say that Bush failed. Everybody is lookng at the actions of the war and the crucial mistakes Bush made that got us here. In the end his early intentions make no difference. These intentions have no effect what-so-ever on how Bush is judged. This is the way society works and how things alwas turn out.
No matter your intentions, your actions are all that matter in he end.
10 Things I want to Do Before I Die
1. Write a book. I wanted to be an author when I was younger. After awhile I stopped caring that much but the idea has still stayed in my head. And I love to read
2. Solve a mystery. I love mystery stories and even a small mystery would be fine by me.
3. Go to all 7 continents. Specifically the countries I originate from. These are England, Scotland, Germany, Russia, Poland, and Ireland. I would also love to visit Italy and Greece, home of the Greek and Roman Empires.
4. Save somebody elses life. I have always wondered what it feels like to have helped a person that much
5. Run a marathon. I would like to feel that sense of accomplishment. Plus I run Cross-Country for my school
6. Start my own library. I have always loved to read. I am also good at recommending books to a person based on who they are.
7. Start my own charitable organization. I hate seeing or hearing about others in need. So I need to do something about it and donations always help people.
8. Discover more about my ancestors. I think It’d be cool to know where I get all my traits from and how my family got started.
9. Meet my favorite authors: Christopher Paolini, Jk Rowling, Brian Jacques, Eoin Colfer, and John Flanagan.
10. Experience a miracle.
Speech
For class we had to write a the speech that we wanted to hear from the President on his Inauguration Day.
My fellow Americans:
First I’d like to thank President Bush for working so hard to make our country a better place.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” These are the words that were written so many years ago by our forefathers in the Declaration of Independence. They still hold true today. Yes, America is in a weakened state but this has happened many times throughout history and still we pull through and become better. Despite the challenges we face America can still remain strong.
Yes, our economy is weakened, but that cannot stop us. We can overcome this crisis. Poverty is sweeping our nation but, by raising our educational standards we can raise students up to live above poverty. Also by offering more jobs we can rebuild America’s economy.
The war in Iraq is seeping our finances but we will end that. We will slowly leave Iraq and in doing so leave it a stable and more passive place. We will also strengthen our relationships with other countries and once again be at peace. Together we can prevent future terrorist attacks power and we with our resources will overpower them and end terrorism.
With everyone’s help America will get out of this ditch that we have been sitting in and progress in the world faster and better then ever before. We can move out the old and make room for new ideas. Together we can save this country and renew it to its glory days. So I say to you, fellow Americans, God bless yourselves and God bless the USA.
A Wonderful Place
A wonderful place to me is the Grand Canyon. It is such an awesome sight. When you look at it it seems as though it’s endless. When you see it at sunset it doesn’t even seem real. The Grand Canyon is 100 times better in person than it is in a picture. In person you can see little details that a photowould miss. It is also fun to go into the canyon and have all the beauty surround you. I would love to again with my friends nd my family.
Wallingford Having Trouble with Website
Wallingford officials are having trouble updating the website that they promised town residents to do. Now, residents are becoming frustrated with the town’s lack of speed in dealing with the website. By not updating the website the town is risking going against the freedom of information act. Mayor William Dickinson believes that a website would only increase the town’s budget when they don’t have a lot of people looking for information in the first place. Despite many complaints and issues Mr. Dickinson is standing firm with his low budget beliefs.

Life is a bit like a maze. You start out not knowing anything at all. You start heading down a path, taking turns once in a while. Then you come to a dead end, so you just turn around and retrace your steps to the wrong turn and start again. These mistakes continue throughout your whole life, and the maze, until finally you give up or you reach the end. The few who do reach the end die happy and content. Those who don’t die miserable.
